It was fun seeing the crowd. Mira was the youngest person I saw there, and there were people as old as probably 70. People dripping diamonds and furs and people in leather and rhinestones. I spent a good deal of time wondering what the orchestra members thought of having to play this music. Most of them are of the age to have grown up listening to Led Zeppelin, but were they too serious about their classical music to do so? One thing I do know for sure is that the acoustics at the Meyerson make raucous applause really deafening.

School of Rock
I'm not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin, but you can't have grown up in the 70's without them being a fairly integral part of the soundtrack of your youth. I never sought them out, but they were always there. A couple of months ago when Nichole suggested going to the DSO's night of Led Zeppelin I figured it would be fun to see how the symphony interpreted their music. I went in expecting something completely different from what I actually experienced, and it was surprisingly great. There was an excellent band fronting the DSO, with each song augmented by symphonic arrangements. It was BIG! Their website states that a lot of Zeppelin fans are introduced to the symphony for the first time through this show, but in our case it was the reverse: my little symphony fans were introduced to Zeppelin for the first time. Mira didn't like it and is really looking forward to going to a "normal" symphony, but Ryan loved it.
