Vacation Day 7

After 6 days of pretty much non-stop fun, we woke up this morning eager to get to Jan's house and enjoy a more relaxed pace. It was a short day of driving, and the stretch between Durango and Del Norte was gorgeous. I'd never been through there during the summer when everything is green. There were waterfalls and stunning views everywhere.

We got to Jan's shortly after lunchtime. Mira had been looking forward to playing with Jan and Gary's dogs almost more than anything else we had planned. She's been wishing for Ryan's dog allergies to be cured every week at the friendship circle time during Girl Scout meetings and asking when she can get a puppy for three years. She was thrilled when she heard Jan's dog Hannah was expecting puppies. The puppies were born in March, and I'd been thinking if Jan still had one to give away whe we got there maybe we'd take one home. Sadly, Jan told me right before we left home that they had given away the last of the puppies, other than the one they intended to keep. Mira was still overjoyed to see both adult dogs and the remaining puppy.

It's always good to see Jan and Gary, and the whole family really enjoys staying here. I love for the kids to have the chance to wander around outside without me constantly looking over their shoulders.
