The kids have "Favorite Word Boxes." A friend and former teacher recommended the idea to me. It helps Mira improve her reading skills and Ryan improve his spelling skills. Here's what they have so far:

They both talk about Sri Lanka a lot. Most days it comes up at least once. Today, it was the topic of conversation several times, including the following conversation.
Pam: ::hangs up from talking on cell phone::
Mira: Wow, you were talking really fast. Who was that?
Pam: It was Dad. Hopefully he can listen fast.
Mira: Well, he is Sri Lankan, after all.
Pam: That's just Uncle Zulki who talks really fast.
Ryan: Yeah, he's Uncle Sonic Mouth.
