Is there an echo in here? Is there an echo in here?

My kids are doing this weird repitition thing. For quite a while Ryan has been saying something then immediately whispering the same thing again. He says it's a habit he's picked up from his friend Robbisean, but two other friends have said their 9 and 10 year olds do it too. I guess all the cool kids are doing it. As if that weren't enough, now Mira says something then immediately repeats it like this: "Can I have a grapefruit? ::pause:: I was like, 'can I have a grapefruit?' " I keep telling her "yes, I know. I was there."

What is it about riding a bicycle that makes it such a rite of passage? Is it one of the first acts that makes you feel that some day you may be independent? I don't know, but it's certainly a big deal. One of the things that makes it so exciting is that you go from having no idea how such a thing can even be possible to complete mastery within a day or two. Mira is filled with confidence these days.

Ryan is as interested in how the bike works as he is in riding it.

When we went for our eye exams, the doctor asked if we'd already done our school that morning. It was one of the first beautiful days of spring, so we'd been out riding bicycles and scooters all morning. Ryan replied "yes, we've been studying physics." He always makes me look good.

LOL! Well, it IS physics, isn't it? What a good kid!

I cannot believe how old both of these children look - it has been far too long since I've seen pictures!

Wow. They are beautiful for certain, but they just look like they grew up all of a sudden!

I know just what you mean! I felt the same way when I saw the pictures in your blog.

My daughter did the same repeating thing for a long time. She'd say something and then mouth/whisper it again right after. Drove me crazy! she's outgrown it but she started younger than yours...

Good luck!
