Bling, Bling

You probably remember Mira's ill-fated ear piercing trip two and a half years ago. We were in Sri Lanka, and she desperately wanted to get her ears pierced like her cousins. We took her to a jewelry store, she picked out her earrings, and the jeweler pierced the first ear. Mira sobbed and sobbed and refused to have the second ear pierced. She wore that single earring for weeks, afraid that removing it would hurt as much as putting it in had. She was so relieved when we finally took the earring out, but she was a little remorseful too. She still wanted pierced ears, but now she knew how much it hurt.

Recently some friends had their ears pierced at Claire's and reported that the new piercing guns and earrings they use are much less painful than the old-fashioned kind. When we pass by Claire's Mira usually wants to go in and look around, and I always ask if she wants to have her ears pierced. She always answers "NO!" But this week, she said "no?" A few minutes later she asked, "can I really have my ears pierced?" A few minutes after that, the deed was done. They pierced both ears at the same time, and she was so relieved and happy and reported that it didn't hurt at all. She's been marvelling at herself and her ears since.

Right after having them pierced:

And to prove both ears are pierced this time:

Aw, she looks lovely! I've got a couple of girls begging to do this, maybe we should try it.
