Double Trouble

Subtitle: The Post Wherein Pam Proves She's Lost Her Mind

I've really been cursing our dog lately. After I spent a small fortune to put grass in the backyard, mostly because the dog was so muddy all the time that the backyard was essentially unusable to us, he ate through the electrical cord for the sprinkler. The yard guy fixed it for no charge, then when he came back a few days later Hippy chewed through it again. As if that weren't enough, he knocked down the control box a few days later, opened it up and removed one of the fuses.

And still, STILL, we went out today and got another puppy. My hope is that Hippy will be less bored and therefore less destructive. They're so incredibly adorable together that I'm sure we did the right thing. The "animal shelter" where we got Jack was a horrifying place. The animals are all kept in very small stainless steel enclosures, and there isn't even anyone working there throughout the week. I'm sure someone goes in at intervals to feed the animals and take them out for a few minutes, but mostly they're just there in their dark metal boxes. I wanted to take all the dogs home.

When we first opened the gate to the backyard, Hippy looked and sounded like he was going to rip Jack's head off. Jack ran off as best he could with the kids tangled up in his leash, and Hippy pursued. Mayhem ensued, but eventually we got Hippy back in the backyard and then brought Jack in. They instantly started acting like best friends and both look very, very happy.

Jack is around the same age as Hippy (6 months) and about the same height, and they're having a great time being puppies together. I feel better for Hippy having a friend, and I feel really great to have rescued Jack. In addition to providing horrible living conditions, the "animal shelter" where we got him (which is really the animal control center run by the police in Little Elm) does not have a no kill policy.

LOL! Well, at least I'm not the only crazy one out there! But TWO 6 month old dogs?! - you are a saint woman! ;) I bet Hippy WILL do better with Jack though - our two love each other to pieces and I think it does help them behave better. They can chew on each other instead of the electrical cords. Congratulations!!!!
