Yesterday was the end-of-the-first-year awards ceremony for Mira's Girl Scout troop. It's a troop of all homeschooled girls, and the parents all share similar ideas about what kinds of experiences we want our kids to have. It's been an incredible experience for all of us, especially Mira. It's hard to believe the little girl who was doing a hippy-hippy-shake dance making homemade ice cream by shaking a ziplock bag during the potluck portion of the meeting is the same girl who so timidly joined the troop last fall. In addition to receiving five new badges and the star pin you get for completing a year, Mira received the "playful otter award." Our troop leader made awards for each girl in recognition of their individual strengths and hand painted little wooden "medals" for them. Mira's award says:
"Everyone wants to play with this Girl Scout. Her cheerful face is full of fun, and she's great at pretend games. Planning for a camping trip, working on a math badge, or just hanging around the park are never dull when she's around. Just like the otters that frolic in the water, this Girl Scout brings joy to everyone around her, so I present Mira with the "Playful Otter" award. "

That is awesome Pam! Mira has always been "bigger than life" hasn't she? What a precious girl - I know you are proud [and you should be!] I'd rather a child get an award like this than any academic or other recognition. Good human beings are the best. :)
