Accidental trip in the wayback machine

Every Thursday a roller hockey rink in Denton opens itself for a homeschool skating day. Today was our first time to go. Mira took one trip around the rink and decided she wanted to leave. Ryan was having a great time. After skating around the sitting area a bit and watching her friends have fun, Mira decided to have another go as long as I skated with her. The rink was blasting tunes from the BeeGees and Kool & the Gang, and in an instant I was transported back to 1977 to the old skating rink in South Irving where I used to go with Jan. Those were good times. I hope Ryan and Mira find at least one lifelong friend like that. Mira is convinced hers is Alexandra, and she tells me all the time that since I met Jan when I was 8 and she met Alexandra when she was 6, she and Alexandra are going to be friends for even longer. I was brought rudely back to 2007 when another mother at the rink said "oh, I'm so impressed seeing someone over 12 out there skating." Huh? I'm what? OK, so I'm 41, but I'll bet I had a lot more fun out there skating and playing blind man's bluff than she did sitting at the table watching.

Unfortunately I left my camera in the car. When I looked outside with thoughts of going to get it I discovered it was pouring...SNOW!

You might think the snow would have sent us home, but we're like postal carriers. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays us from Target on allowance day. Mira, at the age of 6, over half the time spends her allowance on clothes. I think we may be in for trouble. In the fitting room she started dancing and singing "I'm pretty, un huh, I'm pretty" to a hip hop beat. She's right, of course, but she's not especially humble.
