This past weekend the I learned that we're only a 15 minute drive from the state park at Lake Ray Roberts. We planned to spend the afternoon there Monday with a picnic, but when we asked our friends at the garden to join us Monday morning someone came up with the brilliant idea to camp instead. Three hours later, five families (13 kids in all) had pitched their tents and made camp. This was the first time Ryan and Mira had ever been camping, and my first time as an adult. We had such a great time! It's good our first time was spur of the moment like that, because otherwise I would have scrambled around trying to collect camping gear. As it was, we had a tent, air mattresses and lots of blankets and we were just fine. Better than fine.
The weather was incredible, and the kids even played in the lake yesterday. The park was practically deserted, so we've learned that weekday camping in the fall is the way to go. We're ready to sieze the moment the next time a beautiful day presents itself.
